In today's world, safety has become an obsession. It dictates everything from public policy in education to medical care to family life. This "safety-at-all-cost" society is driven by our fear and anxiety. Yet, anyone who refuses to test the limits or move outside their comfort zone because of fear is destined to live a life far below one's full potential. While the topic of risk is a hot topic, childhood itself is risky business. Therefore, it makes more sense to expose our children to acceptable risk and how to manage it, rather than limit their opportunities and over regulate their experiences in ways that suppress their full potential. This session looks at acceptable risk and how to support it, including the risk of winning and losing.
